John Nettle has now completed 2 jobs for us including a major renovation of a Paddington terrace. As two working parents, we needed someone honest with a high level of integrity and quality of work, who we could leave to manage day to day operations of any work we had done. We couldn't have been happier with John and his team.

We found John to be extremely trustworthy and honest to deal with. John was very open with any issues that may have come up during the work. He would be very quick to speak with us with a few solutions at hand to discuss.

During our second renovation we were living in. During this period we found John enjoyable to have around the house with his easy going nature. The kids were always excited when John the Builder would arrive for work and still ask today when John is coming back!

Despite his easy going nature, John is very reliable with a real attention to detail in his work, and would always hire other contractors with a similar ethic and quality.

We would have no hesitation in using John again or recommending him to others, which we have already done to friends.

We employed John Nettle to replace a party wall and to build an extension and patio on our Surry Hills terrace house in 2008. We found John to be extremely professional from the minute we met him.

He is a good communicator and was always available to answer any queries we had even when he was offsite. John also made a point of introducing himself to our neighbours and made himself available as the key communicator for any concerns they had about our build. John calmly dealt with any issues that arose with the build and the many suppliers we had, he certainly fulfilled his project manager role well.

Another wonderful thing about John and his team was that they arrived to work on time. John would also let you know beforehand if there were any changes in the hours they were onsite so that we always knew when workmen would be at the house.

John's building work is of a very high standard and our extension looks as good now as when it was completed. We would definitely hire John again if we were to do another renovation.

John Nettle was referred to us by a friend who described John’s work as high quality and reliable with good attention to detail. After a preliminary meeting, we employed John and his team for stage 1 renovation work to our home in North Bondi. A timeline of works was established and pleasingly the job was completed on time and on budget. We were very happy with the end result. The quality of building work and attention to detail has provided the aesthetic lift to the house we were looking for. During the construction phase we found all employees and sub-contractors pleasant and easy to deal with.

Following the good results of stage 1, we again employed John for stage 2 renovation works to the house. As expected, there were no surprises and we basically had the same experience to stage 1. We found John and his team to be honest, reliable and always looking to conduct high quality work. Again, we are very happy with the end result.

Outside of the stage 1 and 2 building works, we have contacted John for a few minor maintenance jobs to the house which he has made himself available for and completed on a timely basis. We have confidence in the relationship with John and his team that should we ever get around to stage 3, hopefully they will be available!

John was recommended to us by a friend who had just completed a renovation. We had often commented on what a high standard our friend's house had been finished to, and had no hesitations on choosing John for our complete house renovation.

Of all the quotes we received John's was the most thorough, which was fantastic because there were virtually no "hidden" expenses as we knew what to expect. John's communication with us throughout the project was brilliant, he made sure we were up to speed with each step of the building process, and gave us an achievable timeline at which to expect each stage to be completed.

Our build was finished on time, even though we expected it to be late due to rain.

John's crew were also amazing, with exemplary building skills. The finishes and attention to detail were beyond our expectations.

My wife and I used John Nettle to renovate and rebuild our Victorian semi in late 2007 thru to April 2008. We could not have been happier with the job that he did. The job was finished on time and only slightly over budget, which was due to the fact we changed certain specs.

John was extremely efficient and the men and tradesmen he has working for him know he is a no nonsense sort of bloke and therefore jobs are done on time and to the highest quality.

The real estate agent who sold me my place at 277 Birrell St came to have a look at the build job and pointed out quite a few things that I hadn’t even noticed and explained how much value the job would add to my house.

If there was ever any questions or anything we didn’t understand about the job John was more than happy to explain every detail about it.

I have recommended John to friends and family and he has since rebuilt one of my best friend’s places in Randwick which is a stunning build and he was obviously very happy with it.

Project: Kirribilli Apartment

John was invited to tender on my latest project, a complete re-design and fit-out of an art deco apartment in Kirribilli for an important client. Entrusting your design with a builder you haven’t worked with before is always a risk, as they have the potential to make or break the finished product. When John came in with the most competitive tender, it meant a few nervous weeks as the project got up and running and I got to understand how he worked.

To my delight, John quickly established himself as a very experienced, capable and trustworthy builder. Importantly he was also an excellent communicator, regularly informing me about progress on site and seeking my advice on any issues that arose that might affect the final design or aesthetic. In situations where many builders would pursue the cheapest solution, John would regularly consult with me to realize a detail in keeping with the design intent and in accordance with the overall quality of the job.

The results of this particular project speak for themselves. It is clear John’s primary objective is to produce quality work and I will be sure to invite John to tender on future projects. From a client’s perspective, there is comfort in knowing that the builder you entrust your vision with is interested in achieving the same goals as you.

I have known John Nettle professionally for 9 years. I have worked as the project architect ( for my own architectural company, and for my previous employer, Tobias Partners), on a number of projects with John Nettle working as the builder and project manager.

The last project I worked on with John was Alterations and Additions to a semi detached dwelling at 36A Roe Street North Bondi.

The construction of these works ran very smoothly, much due to John’s high level of knowledge of detailing, hard workmanship and good communication skills, with sub-contractors, myself, and the client. The project was brought to conclusion on time, to budget and to a high level of finish.

In general terms I can confidently say that John Nettle is a pleasure to work with due to his high level of professionalism, his construction knowledge, his integrity, his attention to detail and his initiative in detail resolution. All projects I have been involved in with John the sites have been kept safe and clean, which has been of utmost importance in the smooth running of each project.
